(By Jason Sands)- Yup, it’s true, and actually started out as a joke. Owner Harvey Grant initially kidded about how he had the World’s Fastest Diesel Ramcharger (it’s a diesel swap, and there aren’t many, get it?), but over the years it’s actually turned into one of the quicker street legal diesels on the West Coast. With a best of 9.79 at 141mph, the 5.9L Cummins 12-valve powered rig has put down 1,147hp to the tires through a
SunCoast Converters manual valvebody transmission, on three stages of nitrous, while spinning on the rollers. That’s a good 1,500hp at the crank.

Other than a rebuild with Forged Arias pistons, ARP head studs, and a performance camshaft, the engine is surprisingly stock, with the block, crank, rods, and head all being factory items. The Ramcharger makes its power thanks to 80-100psi of boost from compound 66mm and 80mm BorgWarner turbos, a Scheid Diesel 13mm injection pump, Dynomite Diesel Performance injectors, and a dental office’s worth of NX solenoids. Despite about 70% of its weight on the front end, thanks to the 950 pound engine, the Ramcharger has cut a 1.46 60ft time because of its incredibly short wheelbase.

70% of its weight on the front due to a 950 pound engine, and it’s still yankin’ the wheels. Pretty cool.
