In any business, efficiency is king, no matter the scale. Think about a giant mining operation and how many trucks, people, and “moving parts” that it has. We’re assuming that places like that operate 24-hours a day and every one of those hours, minutes, and seconds, needs to be devoted to pulling material out of the Earth or processing said material. There are some issues though. The huge machines used in the process aren’t exactly speedy and the size of the operation could mean that moving equipment from place to place would result in said equipment spending precious time in transit rather than working. Enter this flipping awesome idea.

We came across this video after our buddy Jon Carter posted it on his Facebook page. We’re sharing it because it is so brilliantly simple and cool we know that you BangShifters will totally dig it. What is the idea? Essentially turning the huge shovel into its own trailer to be transported at “high speed” by one of the gigantic dump trucks that hauls ore and rock all day. Sounds complicated, right? Not at all. There are a pair of mondo dollies that the shovel drives onto with its tracks and using the bucket and lift arm, it pulls itself over the to dump truck and then uses some down pressure on the bucket in the back of the dump body to raise the front of the tracks off the road surface, allowing the thing to freely roll behind the truck like a massive trailer.

This is 100% BangShift approved thinking and we hope the dude that figured out the program got himself a sweet raise because we’re guessing it is making that operation a bunch of money.
