Southern Showdown Truck and Tractor Pull: Big Engines, Flying Dirt Our Last Action

Southern Showdown Truck and Tractor Pull: Big Engines, Flying Dirt Our Last Action

(Photos by David Whealon) – Here’s our last load of pulling action photos from the 2015 NTPA Southern Showdown at the North Carolina State Fair. As Dave told us earlier in the week when we first started running these images, the pulling course provides a nice respite from the guys hawking fried candy bars, the carnies trying to get you to play their rigged games, and the rides that may or may not be bolted together in a proper fashion. You KNOW all the stuff on the pulling course is screwed together tight because these guys and girls all show up to claw each others’ eyeballs out. Big fun!

David’s action photos capture the fury and strain that these vehicles are under as they rip and tear their way through the Earth in an effort to drag a seemingly immovable object just a inch or a fraction of an inch further than the guys who they are competing against. It is a sport of inches powered by engines that make ponies in the thousands. I took Freiburger to his first pull years ago and his reaction? “This is like the most brutal dyno pull I have ever seen.”

Yeah, that’s about right.
