(Photos by David Whealon) – Yesterday David Whealon told us about the good time he had blasting photos of the NTPA sanctioned Southern Showdown Truck and Tractor pull at the NC State Fair. This event had a wide range of classes and you are going to see a few of them in this fresh collection of photos. We have farm tractors, multiple engine modifieds, the insane short wheelbase minis, and even some four wheel drive trucks.

Like drag racing, the world of truck and tractor pulling is filled with diversity and one of the reasons people love going to the pulls is the fact that they will see so much different stuff. Gassers, diesels, blowers, turbos, turbine powered stuff, and who knows whatever else will roll into the gate.

While all motorsports are about evolution it is pretty amazing to look at the farm equipment that was responsible for the earliest days of this sport and then to look at the specialized monsters that dominate it today. Huge power, untold amounts of torque, engines built with the most advanced and tough parts available. Pulling is as all out a motorsport as there is and these photos prove it!
