As of writing, the BBC still has Jeremy Clarkson in time-out and Top Gear in television purgatory. It sucks out loud for fans of the show, who were in the middle of the season and were looking forward to new episodes. And worst of all, since there’s no episodes and therefore, no car testing, Top Gear’s tamed racing driver, the Stig, has been bored off of his nonexistent ass in the downtime. Instead of the usual luxobarge or hypercar that he’s treated to once a week, he’s had to settle for scraps and bits of grass around the kennel he’s housed in when he’s not needed. It’s a sad life, really, so you can imagine that when presented with a chance to hustle the Hennessey VelociRaptor around the Dunsfold track, that he was so eager he skipped for the first time ever in his life to the driver-side door.
The VelociRaptor has been on Top Gear USA before. It’s a 623-hp supercharged Raptor, packing a 2.9L supercharger onto the 6.2L V8, and by every stretch of the imagination it’s completely out of it’s element on a road course…which means that the lap is that much better to watch! Adding to the fun is that Stig got to drive it on a track that was borderline flooded, so now you have a heavy, powerful truck, a skidpad with tire barriers, and an all-white figure who doesn’t understand the command “LIFT!”
Some say, that on March 10th he was devouring a nice, fresh and hot steak for dinner…and that if he had been drinking rose wine for several hours on a long day, the only thing he would angrily demand would be directions to the nearest bathroom. All we know is, he’s called The Stig, and he can drive the hell out of a Ford on a track!
