Boy, I really love old fire trucks and there are always a healthy supply of these working heroes on eBay but few of them spin my crank harder than the one you see below. While I am sure that there were likely a zillion Chevrolet fire trucks over the years, not that many of them actually show up for sale, leading me to believe that the majority of the smaller firefighting pieces that worked off of a Chevy chassis went to the big scrap pile in the sky rather than being passed around through auctions and other means. This truck seems to have long served the Orwin Volunteer Fire Department which was based in the tiny town of Tower City, Pennsylvania. With virtually nothing but two story structures, a population of about 1,300 people and a land area of about half a square mile, a small town needed a small fire truck.
We love everything about this truck but the fact that it is a Chevy 6400 cab and chassis as well as the fact that the truck is white really make it for us. The white paint and neat old lettering make us weak in the knees. Like most fire trucks, this one has lead a pampered life between calls. The condition of the truck and the shape of the engine are indicative of a vehicle that has been well maintained. While the seller does not have the pump hooked up he thinks that all the pieces are there to make it work if you wanted to. It would be a fun party trick for cookouts, that’s for sure.
Lastly, the intact nature of the truck is amazing. From the siren to the lights, hoses, ladders, and other equipment, it is all there. This would not have been nearly as cool if the truck were all gutted and junked up . Sure you can time it to 60 on a sun dial, that is not what this is about.
