Traditions are a huge thing in motorsports. Whether we’re talking about such grand events like the Indy 500 or such humble goings on as the “Our Gang Racing” ice races in Colorado, history and all that comes with it matters. In this video we learn about a guy named Jimmy Olson who is a racer with the “Our Gang” group and part of a decades old tradition on the frozen lakes of Colorado, ice racing. This is pretty hardcore stuff though as his Jeep is powered by a really stout small block, has a built suspension, a nice cage, and spikes that would tenderize a person like a Salisbury steak without even thinking about it.
There’s some great quotes in here. One of them comes from Olson answering a question we don’t hear but it centered around money. Olson replies that while you won’t rich ice racing you will become rich in friends, passion, and experiences. Those are three things that racing brings to everyone at every level they compete at and we love it. Between the screaming Jeep and the flying ice, we’re not sure what’s cooler.
We checked the standings for this season of the club’s racing activities and Jimmy Olson is currently leading the “Men’s Competition” class of the Our Gang Racing association. He’s not just the start of this video, he’s also a certified bad ass on the lake! Not too bad for a small block Jeep with spiked tires.
