Hey look, we recognize that Jeeps with square headlights are not exactly the ones that people claw each others’ eyes out for but the reality is that they made a perfect place for a project build because of that fact, not in spite of it. There’s a lot less “guilt” (not that we ever have any of that) involved with cutting one of these things to shreds than something more people would get wound up over. In the case of this Jeep, the end result of that work is a machine that is cool, fast, unique, and ultimately 100% BangShift approved.
We’re not sure we have ever seen a 4BT Cummins swap into a Jeep of this era before. The thing fits like a glove in there even with the additional plumbing involved with the second turbo. The ad lists this as being a “twin turbo” Jeep and while we know that ain’t realty right terminology, others may not. When are two turbos NOT twin turbos? When they are in line with each other on the same plumbing. Twin turbos work independently of each other and each feed the engine into a common plenum (usually). Compound turbos work together with an “atmospheric” turbo taking the outside air and shoving it directly to a second high pressure turbo which takes that already pressurized air and gives it another blast. The ensuing massive volume of air means a commiserate massive volume of fuel can be made and that’s why this Jeep is making 350hp according to the seller. It has to be a riot to drive.
The transmission is a five speed NV4500 and among other things are an air equipped suspension system that can be raised or lowered several inches depending on the look you are going for or the terrain you are on. The interior is not exceptionally luxurious but there essentials are there. Dash, seats, ect. No one will mistake it for a Bentley but then again if it were that nice you’d never want to have fun in it.
The asking price of $24,000 seems insane. We know it is different. We know someone spend a ton of time and money on it, but we also know that you can buy a lot of stuff for $24,000 and that makes dropping all that on this Jeep tough for us. What do you think?
Nice!
I love a good 4BT swap.
Ever since I rode in a lifted coil-springed Wrangler (this was a 1997 model) out in the desert in ALL types of terrain except mud, I would NEVER consider a leaf-springed Jeep, not even any CJ model. The coil-spring Jeep rode like a Cadillac….it was awesome.
Yeah, YJs don’t ride comfortable at all.
This rig looks like he’s got some kind of bling 3/4 link setup.
That suspension will out performs most others in sand snow mud whatever it’s givin.
It’s a 4link
$24k! For that kind of coin I’m looking for a clean TJ with a 6BT. That YJ is worth about 10k tops!
