It has been far too long since I last indulged my love of old tractors here on the pages of BangShift so let’s fix this today, shall we? Here we have a 1950s video produced by the Allis-Chalmers company talking about how handy, cool, and useful crawler tractors are in all sorts of different environments. They do a neat thing here and present the tractors in situations that range from normal construction jobs, demolition work, logging, road breaking, and even ranch maintenance.
As I have said before, one of then things that is so striking about many of the machines from this era is the fact that they were largely without cabs. Yes, some of them have cabs and ROPS on them here but the majority are open and they look so cool.
It takes some real balls to do a few of the things that the machines in the video are doing with nothing to prevent dozens of tons of steel and iron from turning you over and turning you into a grease spot. From the work being done on the steep angled hills to the section of the video showing the guy working around Lake Tahoe, this is really some primo stuff.
I’d love to have a few old crawlers around just to be able to fire them up, push junk around, make good diesel noises, and squeak their way around my property. No, my neighbors do not agree with this philosophy.
