It has been too long since we last check in on some good pulling carnage video. In this clip, which was shot a couple years back, we see a awesome looking Mack Superliner truck with two drive axles working hard on the pulling course. The big Cummins engine in the truck is screaming away, belching black smoke, and dragging the nefarious weight sled down the course. Just as the truck grinds to a halt, KABLOOEY! The nose blows open and a massive cloud of smoke engulfs the whole rig.
The cool part is what you see after the smoke clears. It is immediately evident that something has gone big time wrong by the way the motor is both sitting up and cockeyed in the front of the big Mack. The announcer says that the head lifted off and the pressure release blew the hood up, but then he is corrected about 30-seconds later when a race official tells him that the block itself blew apart.
While not as spectacular as the videos where the pulling vehicle completely pitches the block and top end of the engine out of the vehicle, it is still a cool reminder about how many hundreds of lbs of boost are shoved through these beasts and just how hard they are working. Next time you get the chance to see a big truck Cummins motor, look at it and then consider what kind of stresses it would take to literally blow one apart. Impressive stuff!
That truck is part of a three truck pulling team, from Ravenna Ohio. Their latest truck has an electronic c15 cat and it is awesome.
The one in the video was a qsk19 cummins.
