Watch a Finnish Pulling Tractor Blow A Dyno’s Water Brake Apart During a Pull!

Watch a Finnish Pulling Tractor Blow A Dyno’s Water Brake Apart During a Pull!

Chalk this on up to the, “never seen that one before” file. This video shows some guys in Finland running their big honkin’ pulling tractor on a dyno. We assume that they’re tuning the machine up for pulling action later on in the year. The first couple of minutes just show the diesel tractor idling and gradually picking up engine speed, but then after the two minute mark things get interesting.

The dyno operator can be seen cranking some sort of a knob or handle and the engine is really working away and then all kinds of wet hell breaks loose. The dyno fails, we think in the water brake area and unleashes a torrent of water that not only soaks the operator, but also launches him right out of the frame! We can laugh about this one because no one was hurt, but with this much pressure and all that heavy plumbing around, it is a good thing no heavy metal got launched into anyone’s head! If anything, this is a cool example of the types of stress and pressure that the various systems of a dyno are under at any particular time, especially one of the water brake variety.

Hi, I am the owner of the dyno, and my son Johannes is the operator..
That run was one of the first ones on the dyno…and I have to take “credit” for the failure…it was just a bad weld of a cast iron part that borke the water outlet from the dyno. The dyno works great now. It is actually capable of handling up to 6000hp and 60 000Nm (!) torque. The dyno came from The Wartsila ship engine factory, and it has been upgraded with modern electronics from Dynomite…
