To those non-versed in the pulling world, the sight of a tractor with a roll cage and a driver in a fire suit may seem somewhat comical but when you watch this video you’ll know why the guys wear the suit. Filmed in Europe, this video depicts a triple turbocharged John Deere pulling tractor suffering a massive engine failure that has the entire tractor engulfed in fire, including the driver. If the fire and quick stop were one thing, the response crew is another. We’re not sure what the deal is but guys running and dumping buckets of water on a burning machine don’t really seem like the kinds of techniques competitors expect in this day and age.
Yes, it can be painful to clean up all the dust and residue from a fire extinguisher but this sucker went on cooking for a lot longer than it would have if someone initially ran up and just snuffed the blaze in the first place, right? We dig the attitude and bravery of the people that fought the fire but it seems almost too old school for people to be running to troughs to fill bucks and dump it on a burning tractor. What if this dude had been upside down and burning? Would it still be a bucket brigade like 1867 again? Again, maybe we’re missing something here and if we are please let us know but what is the deal with fighting a fire with water buckets?
