Potentially the most basic rule of being a truck driver is knowing how tall the load on the truck is and paying attention to structures (like bridges) that may be too low for the truck and its cargo to fit under. This guy was obviously in the bathroom for the first five minutes of truck driving school because the video shows a driver repeatedly smashing the mast of a crane into the support beams of a steel bridge he was crossing. Not being structural engineers ourselves, we’re just going to take a wild ass guess and say that the beams that were being thumped by the crane are fairly important to keep the whole structure from falling apart and plunging into the river, killing everyone on it. We’re also going out on a limb to say that the cables that were also getting mashed may be important to the safe operation of the crane so someone doesn’t get squashed when it is lifting heavy stuff.
The guys following this mess don’t seem like MENSA candidates either because rather than being horrified that they’re lives are being jeopardized by the Einstein in the truck they are laughing their asses off watching the thing and repeatedly calling the driver an effing idiot, which is 100% the truth. This video seems to have some big legs on the internet so the dude who was driving the big rig which was transporting the crane is probably out of a job and rightfully so. What if you and your family crossed that bridge every day to get home and it was somehow compromised by the repeated impacts? It wasn’t long ago that a bridge collapsed in Minnesota (not due to a truck incident, but you get the picture…it can happen) and had catastrophic results.
