BJ Johnson is one of the up and coming names in the world of monster truck racing. What was once the realm of guys who bashed beer cans over their heads before getting into the trucks is now becoming as professional and specialized as any other form of racing out there. Don’t believe us? The save that BJ makes in this video is proof that there are some serious instincts and skills that drivers can apply at the exact right time to get themselves out of what looks like a hopeless situation. How hopeless? This truck was literally on its roof before BJ was able to get it turned over with judicious throttle input.
It looks like BJ was doing his freestyle routine when this happened. Freestyle is the portion of the program where the drivers are given a time limit and basically set free on the course to tear stuff up, jump, and make use of all the obstacles that they have in front of them. It is highly entertaining and the guys who are good at it (like Johnson) get a rhythm and a cadence to their performance and it is awesome, non-stop action. The guys who aren’t so good are all herky-jerky and it is not as impressive to watch.
Big air and lots of throttle got Johnson into trouble and lots of throttle at the right time gets him out in this video. Epic save by every measure possible.
Thanks to Ron for the tip on this video!
Thanks for the great write up on our Son B.J. Johnson. You were right on with your comments. We are very proud of our Son. He is totally living his longtime dream of being a Monster Truck Driver. He has paid his dues with several Teams, but is so greatful for the opportunity to drive for Monster Jam/Feld Motorsports. Thank you again. Regards: Harold and Linda Johnson, Chowchilla, Ca. Proud parents of B.J. Johnson Mohawk Warrior Monster Jam Truck # 2 driver.
That took some serious skill.
I’ve known BJ since he was a kid. First car he ever rolled is when my dad tapped him to do a ramp stunt for us at an air show. BJ worked down at my chassis shop nights and weekends. He hung out and learned a lot. He met the mother of his daughter at my wedding. BJ is like family to me…I haven’t talked to him in a while. He’s the bravest/craziest/smartest driver out there. Good Luck BJ…your gonna go far….long ways from THE COW SLAYER days…(If you ever meet BJ ask him how his Dodge got named COW SLAYER…LOL)
