(Words by Jason Mazzotta) – Demolition derbies have been around for a long time and are a favorite event among county fairs and motorsport events, but this is a little twist where the vehicles demolishing each other are lawnmowers. At the Fayette County Fair in Dunbar, Pennsylvania the Lawnmower Demolition Derby is a hit, with the lawnmowers modified for safety and ultimate destruction the action is pretty entertaining. Each tractor is surrounded by a steel halo to help protect the driver from the other tractors, but is also used to help smash and roll the other tractors out of the competition.
Josh Quarrick is riding his mower known as “Old Rusty” and cleans house taking out all of his other competitors. He has a great sense of where the other competitors are, and uses an effective wheelie technique to roll the other drivers right out of their tractors and out of the competition. In the process of winning the event he rolls through the field in under four minutes, and blowing the engine of one competitor in the process. He has some power on his side as he goes nose to nose with a couple tractors and pushes them right out of the way in route to a convincing win.
(editor’s note: I have no idea if this guy is hated but I would hate him if I had to compete against him. The guy is like the AJ Foyt of this junk.)
