Formula truck racing is a Brazilian motorsport that is absolutely wild; with turbocharged big rigs reaching speeds over 100 mph, it naturally generates excitement. Trucks builders such as; Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Volvo, and Ford among others make up the field of non-aerodynamic race vehicles, and race for championships by competing on tracks with 30-35 turns per lap, and just as in every form of racing, when you push the vehicle to its limit accidents are bound to happen.
Diumar Bueno was racing his Volvo truck in Guaporé, Brazil when he experienced what should be the worst accident of his life. As he was full throttle heading down a straightaway, it appears his throttle sticks and with the combination of the power of the turbocharged engine and loss of brakes he is unable to scrub off any speed. As he enters the grass it appears he is not losing speed, but gaining it. Seconds later he is launched from the grassy infield up the banking in the corner, through the tire barrier, wall, and clear out of sight.
When the crash appears that it couldn’t be any worse, the camera then follows the trucks’ path through the wall, only find that after the truck went through the wall, it plummeted 65 feet off a cliff, and landed on another section of the track below. (Watch closely as the camera changes, parts of the truck are still in the tree tops.) With the horrific aftermath of what is left of Bueno’s Volvo, it is a miracle he only suffered two broken legs, a fractured arm, and a cut tongue.
