Note that the guy folding into a pretzel in the image above is not doing it for fun but rather because of the extreme forces being exerted on his body after smashing into another side by side at a very high rate of speed. The dude eating the dash had just come over a pretty gnarly jump when he landed and saw another machine literally in his lap. Without any time to react, he pummeled the guy. There is some chatter after the crash between the guys and it sounds like the dude who was dead in the water broke the rear axles or something and was trying to put it in four wheel drive to get out of the way but it was too late.
These side by sides have exploded into a huge market all by themselves. There are multiple companies making parts and pieces for them that include everything from lift kits and suspension mods to engine modifications up the yazoo and even stuff like digital dashes that are supplied by companies like RacePak and others. We’re thinking that these are mostly stock machines involved in this wreck but wow is it a tough shot.
Lastly, this is not exactly what we thought it would be. The guys are actually on a course and not just bombing wildly around the dunes in a willy nilly fashion. We first thought we were going to see two of them collide head on atop a dune or something. Not the case…not the case at all!
