Prior to seeing this video, the only school bus I had ever seen pull a wheelie was the late Ken Nelson’s “Cool Bus” wheelstander. Not to take anything away from one of drag racing’s coolest showmen but seeing an actual school bus pull the front wheels up in the air with tens of thousands of pounds strapped its ass is pretty great. The old International “Prison Bus” is cool and frankly we never even considered a bus as a puller but after seeing this video is turns out that lots of them have been pressed into service for pulling fun. It seems dumb a first but when when you look at the thing, how long it is, how the engine and most of the weight is way up front, the math starts looking pretty well. The if you dress it up like an inmate transfer prison bus you really have a winner.
We’re guessing tuned up DT466 power in here or swapped in Cummins power as this thing certainly sounds like a screaming six banger as it heads down the course in this video, right? We know nothing about the machine other than its outside appearance with flashing lights. It seems like you can get old school buses for pretty short money. It would be a great class to run as a stand alone deal in a pulling organization. Hell, imagine having a “pull bus” where fans would pay $20 a head to ride in the thing on exhibition pulls. That would be a total cash cow!
This seems dumb and awkward on its face but when you watch that bus get a head of steam behind it and then pull the front end a couple of feet in the air, your opinion will change.
Thanks for the tip, big dad!
