What Can An Ancient Fire Truck Become In The Right Hands? Jay Leno Checks Out The 1915 LaBestioni Rusty Two!

You could point out how involved of a restoration it was for this 1915 American LaFrance chassis. It had to be cut out of a small forest, dragged home, and built back up from pretty much scratch. Only the chassis, bonnet, original battery box and the radiator cowl are original pieces. You could point out the radically overbuilt 14 liter T-head inline six cylinder, whose size might seem excessive until you take in the actual scope of what you are looking at…this is a very, very large automobile. You could note the cast decorative elements, such as the radiator cap, and marvel at the chain drive, the exposed-shifter three-speed manual, the exotic mahogany wood trim on the tail of the car,  or anything else on the car, but what should really be noted is that the car is the creation of one man, Gary Wells. Gary had the vision to turn this American LaFrance from a scrap-worthy frame to a monstrous two-seat roadster, and his attention to detail, combined with elements of a mad scientist personality, created a car that defies most conventions. And Jay gets to drive it…the lucky sod. He just better be careful about the center-position throttle pedal…
