I recently filmed a new web series featuring junkyard trucks being built into off-road monsters that have to compete in several off-road challenges in order to crown a winner. Some teams went in similar directions, and others went off into left field. When one of the teams asked me what vehicle I would have chosen to start the competition, I answered Crown Vic or Caprice 9C1. They laughed, agreed a bit, and then reminded me that in this particular competition it had to start life as, and still resemble, a factory built truck. This would not be the case in my version of this story. I’d let competitors pick from a few different choices, just to make it more interesting and fun.
With that said, tell me which one of these four you would choose if I told you that you had to build a pre-runner style rig that could bomb through the desert at high speed, jump like a trophy truck, handle a tight and twisty dirt fire road, and handle a short course off-road track. Would you choose one of these two full frame cars? Or would you roll with a truck? Is one more readily suited for this one? Which one do you think would live best in stock form if you beat on it in the desert? I’d be asking all these questions and more if I was in on a build like that, but this isn’t about me. This is about you.
What would you choose? Crown Vic? Caprice? F150? or C1500?
Tough choice don’t you think?
Let us know what you’d choose.
No of them just a huge waste of time and money
F-150… The TTB style front suspension just works for a prerunner type vehicle..
I agree. I’ve owned 3 of the 4 mentioned and none of them would be a good candidate. The F150 split i-beam front suspension basically sucks on the road but can take the abuse offroad.
Definitely the F150. I beams work great, especially for a budget prerunner.
So Chad, what’s this web series you worked on? Let us know when its ready, some of us would be into that I’m sure
The F150…already been there and done that multiple times over off-road racing history.
