time to reduce the boxes on the floor

amazing how many holes are going to get covered up by this

some primer, some fitting and a bunch of tacks

    rustbegone

    window even fits (bonus)

fine tuning aside - it fits

      projects.

my plan with this car is a fast, street sleeper. Sleepers come in many flavors, from "wow, can believe your Buick passed me on the inside of that corner while I'm driving my Audi" to ones that take someone else's lunch money (or lunch car). I haven't decided yet where the line is going to be, it needs to handle and stop - which I've done. However, do I put a 500 hp or 1100 hp motor in it? that I haven't yet decided the difference in cost is substantial however a DD will never support itself on lunch cars; but can make really good money in other situations....

and here is the danger of project creep - if this is a lunch money car, believe it or not, it's mostly motor work that gets the nod - however, "why don't I just" then creeps in - at 1100 hp this is an 8s car. To run it at the track with the lights on - needs a cage and a bunch of other things... but all of those things are chump change when considering the motor - I figure 1100 hp costs 20k for just the motor (not the fuel system, turbo, trans, diff, etc) - 500 - I could cobble something together (not DD) for less then 7k all in....

decisions - but the point - knowing your decision points can make or break a build... I could do foundation work (larger fuel system, stronger trans, axles, etc) as money and time allows - but if I'm flipping that's money I'm giving away...

and for those who are going 'but but but' - the 50 Buick, already has a 20k motor.... it and my FJ40 are keepers, the wagon and my Corvette are pleasant distractions .... though I must admit that I'm tempted to go put some Aussies back on their boat with a GM V6

and I did talk to the engine builder today - the nice part is I already have the turbo 400 for the V6 build

and theres the flag that says "500hp motor w/ a HUGE n2o shot"................
although honestly a 500hp motor in a well sorted car with decent stall/gears
should still be an easy low 11/high 10. now hit it with 300+hp of n2o and
youre into the 9's/ knocking on the 8's... that will still take PLENTY of
lunch money, especially in a 'grandma' wagon....

one thing you're missing. The stock motor I have now - even with a girdle and updates - won't live long at anything north of 500 hp, it is either 500 hp motor, or later block and updates

          • Re: Buinicorn the 1964 Skylark wagon sleeper

easy way out--factory 4 bolt 454, factory steel crank, $500/set aftermarket rods,
big brodie II heads, forged 10-1 pistons, and a mongo cam. that will make +500hp
already, and laugh off a 250hp shot like its nothing for a long long time-- and you
can piece it together for well under $7k.

course if you insist on that lil ol v6 or 455 buick, then yes you are gonna need
a lot more $$$ for it to make that kinda power reliably.... but id be confidant in a
MK-IV 454 with factory good stuff and aftermarket rods through about 800hp.

so whats more important--the giggle factor (oooh, look--its a buick motor!!! )
or the slack jaws when you show em your tailgate start to finish?

            only you can decide.

(come on--you actually thought i was going to say only you can prevent
            forest fires, didnt you? )

either way, that car is going to be awesome and then some.

While I appreciate your hypothetical build, you somehow seem to have forgotten I built just that... and I know its limitations.... and its weight

I'll take 8s for V6 - or put another way, 8s with a BBC and you'll get yawns. 8s with a turbo V6 and I have Judas Priest.... and who wouldn't want to be Judas Priest?

              454 doing 8s

                          thats my favorite priest song.
however now knowing rob halford is gay makes me hear,
"im your [email protected] lover"..... just saying.

still love the song tho. so hes gay, so what. let him
be him. anyway yes yes, i see all your points--and
i guess that answers the question. so now you either
pony up the $ to do the v6 to 1000+hp, or run "only"
                          500hp.

or take the easy way out with my recipe. no time to yawn
when its over in 8....and 8's with turbo=YAWN to me. more
so with twins, i mean YAH its got turbos, of COURSE it
honks, daaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.... i mean-- it bettter, right?

what WOULDNT make crazy power with 30-80psi?
and i bet you could do 2-3 complete 454's for what that v6
build above cost when its all said and done.

but again, whatever you do its going to be awesome.
and i still vote for the naked lady ridding a dragon motif.

So was Freddy Mercury.... so what? great music seems to come from the greatest outlier - so if your point is you need to be gay to be great at music, what happened to you?

run down times on Drag Week - there lies the clue as to why a V6 instead of a BBC.... while sure you can play with bucks down, the dollars the BB power adders are playing with is nowhere near my zip code..... on the other hand, there is a good natured rivalry in the 6 cyl. land... and in that land I can afford to play - while I'm sure I'll never do much there (too ADD for that) having a turbo V6 that takes the lunch money from Microsofties could be fun...."nothing to see here, just an old guy in a Buick wagon who thinks he's fast...."
