Light LOL It weighs more than me.

Just picked up the block and rod. Both look outstanding. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I went ahead and had them check the rod and it was slightly egg shaped. He resized it and we are good to go.

Oh yeah, sleeve ran me $125 and the resize was $25. Turnaround time was super fast.

    Whoo Hoo!

Parts are ordered and block is at the machine shop.

    Who says BBF's are heavy?

pfft. Just reach over, grab it and toss it in the back of the Durango.

    It's completely apart.

The good: The crank looks perfect as does the rod.

The bad: Needs a new piston - cracked, rod bearings (cyl 4 and 8 ), and rod bolts.

The ugly: Bent rod bolts on #4. Don't ask me how that happened.

Popped the pan & #4 rod bolts were loose & bent, bearing half turned. I can't imagine forgetting to torque a rod cap, but stranger things have happened when I start using tools. Rod seems to check out fine though. I was glad the crank was not damaged. w00t Everything else looks great in there. No metal made it to the oil pump so that makes me very happy.

Next. Haul the block to Tulia for a sleeve. Then slam this dang thing back together.

    that totally stinks.

I admire your tenacity and patience.

Keep at it - it will roar again!

Hopefully you have room to mill the heads a little without putting yourself in the race gas only compression ratio range.

That sucks, I just went through the same thing in January, but I only lost a crank and some connecting rods.

Looks like my hypotheses is probably correct. Something was in there when it started. I think it might have been something like a piece of larger gauge wire with the plastic insulation on it. I did quite a bit of wiring after the motor was assembled and certainly could have dropped a piece in a port. There is a little smile on the bottom side of the chamber where the piston crown contacted when it cocked in the bore. Something else isn't right because there is an obvious area of piston to head contact. I know for a fact all 8 were zero deck, so it might have turned a bearing too.

    Pics of junk:

Nothing that can't be fixed. I pulled the motor yesterday and have it partially torn down. Hopefully it won't be down for too long.

    Good luck
My sleeve was $85 for the part, plus labor to install it (heat the block, cool the sleeve with liquid nitrogen)
Then they also decked the block / head surface slightly, sonic checked it and hot tanked it....

Most of that you don't need.

Man - what a bummer! Hopefully this will be the last of your major hurdles on this thing...
