Went by Scottie's at lunch and we jumped right into tearing the C6 down. It was fun watching a guy that knows exactly what he is doing do his thing.



The black blob of rtv in the corner is where the transbrake plugged in, back when it had a transbrake vb in it.







Holy crap that's a lot of stuff!!!!


I bought this trans on ebay from a guy in Hobbs, NM back when I was working on the Ranger project. It was his backup racecar trans and had never been run. Scottie was very happy with the previous builder. Trans already contained some heavier duty E40D parts. Some of the clutches looked absolutely perfect. Others, not so much. However, he was not surprised by the ones that were worn and said he really expected to see worse. Overall the trans was in very good condition, but he did say that it probably would have really needed a rebuild or at least a new band in less than a year depending upon how much I raced it. They are going to clean everything up, modify a couple little things and we will reassemble it at 9 this Saturday morning. Whoo hoo!

Unfortunately, we were not able to build the trans on Saturday. Scottie called and said they were covered up Friday and did not get everything prepared. He said we could do it this week.

I had 3.5" in my gauge Saturday which is a ridiculous amount of rain for us in a 12 hour period. There is water everywhere and the city's storm runoff lakes are filled to the max. Never seen anything like it around here. Downstate yes, but never here.

Just talked to Scottie. We are on for Thursday evening. Whoo hoo!

Are your aquafers refilling? My bro in San Anto says that the Edwards aquafer is FINALLY getting back to normal and the Indian springs in a park near his home are again ready for the kids to swim - as kids have been doing for 10,000 years. Damn the "No Swimming" signs! (Did they really think those signs would stop it?)

Most likely... I heard Lake Meredith is actually a lake again this year. It was a mud puddle last I was there.

My joint at Texoma is barely above water. The whole lake is some 25 feet over "FULL" and more rain coming. Folks on the Red River are likely to see some hairy losses, they don't have control of the lake right now and it's there to prevent flooding of the Red River.



The American Legion in Pottsboro's roof is very likely under a foot of water. It's going to be an expensive year.

Speaking of expensive - or saving some maybe, looking forward to the pics of the C6 going back together!

As far as the underground Ogalalla aquifer goes, all this rain will do little for it in the short term, because it takes such a long time for surface water to reach it. It will however, slightly slow dependence upon the aquifer and will certainly give farmers a good moisture base for planting this season.

We are just running out of storage capacity as most of our drainage lakes are dead headed and rely solely on leaching/evaporation to control the water level. Our average yearly rainfall is 18 inches and we are at 14.5 so far with more to come they say.

I just want it to stop for a little while so I can finish my car!!!

Well we worked on it, but spent most of our time fitting the pump bushing to the new converter. We tried 3 bushings before we found one that we could work with. The first 2 were just way too tight. This was something we did not anticipate being an issue. We finally did get to sized properly, but then only had time to partially assemble some of the rotating parts. We will finish later this week.

welcome to the wonderful world of automatic transmissions. I wonder if the converter hub was slightly out of spec (expanded or something)?

I think the hub ws a bit big. I had the old converter there and it slipped on no problem.

I shook the old converter and Scottie said he thought it sounded like there was waaaaaay too much clearance in there. It clanks pretty good, so the old one must have been ballooned a bit already.

One drum loaded and the piston in another. On the right one, you can see the one of the holes Scottie added. These allow the oil between the clutches an additional escape path when they apply so the application is quick and firm for the 2-3 shift.

High gear clutches and steels were a bit toasty. Looks like we caught this in time before they really became a problem.
