Biggest reason is that, back in 2009/2010 parts were available to poke a 385 in a Fox Mustang easily. Motor mounts, oil pans, headers, etc. FE's just are not supported in the Foxbody world and I've never really been a big FE fan.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

No doubt the cost thing is more than true. As a 15 year old I knew a guy with a 406/4 speed Mercury hardtop (must have been a '62 IIRC) which was the fastest thing I'd ever been near and FEs caught my attention back then. So I have a soft spot but like I said it's an emotional attachment. But I've also wanted to build a Packard V8 powered street rod so I know I'm not right......Originally posted by cstmwgn View PostJust to butt in - the aftermarket support for 385 series is excellent. Prices are significantly cheaper than FE parts of the same caliber.Comment

Dan,
Welcome, you are NOT Alone out there in the
Obscure Engine Vehicle Build World.
Especially this time of year,
I have always wanted to build a GMC Gas V-12,
(I know guys, I'm a Ford Garage Fan)
Truck Framed (just to support it),
Dual Cowl Faeton bodied, Open Top Roadster
In Candy Apple Red with Stark White Interior
Now with "Super Singles" for semi's, the vision
is closer. That Long Hood, V-12 Zoomies out both sides, Dual Carbs (the way they came from the factory) with Ram Air Covers......
And have a White with Black Spots "Boot" built for the Drop Top Cover......
And give Santa Rides in the local Christmas Parade.......
Better than a Red Ride BB Gun, eh?Comment

That Duesenberg is stunning! If you get to Auburn IN be sure to go to the museum - it's amazing! We used to have a guy on here who was building an Auburn powered Auburn street rod. He volunteers at the Museum and came across an Auburn deemed unrestorable and was working with that. I'm sorry he dropped out here.Comment

I pulled all the British wiring out of the MGB and that was EXTREMELY satisfying! No more "Lucas, Lord of Darkness!" I have a Hot Rod Wires body wiring kit and all the EFI stuff from Affordable Fuel Injection (now Advanced Fuel Injection after it was sold to a long time employee) so no more English wires.Originally posted by BBR View PostLast edited by DanStokes; December 28, 2024, 11:35 AM.Comment

James: I watched de-wring part 1, and I feel your pain. When we built the '87 fox body starting in 2014 and finally finished for Drag Weekend 2015, we disassembled it done to the shell knowing that it was going to get a 25.5 cage (that was aggressive given we have yet to go faster than 8.50 without spray). In that process we removed the entire stock harness, it weighed 30#, and striped it down to what is needed to operate non-engine, driveline, cooling with stock switch gear: lights, brake lights, signals, horn, wipers, interior and dash lights, plus extra LED strips in the trunk and underhood for visibility. That harness weighs 7#. We then added a spaghetti menders setup for coils, injectors, fuel system, cooling pumps and fans etc. along with power distribution and charging system wiring. This setup has been almost bullet proof over 10 years. we did cook a cooling fan fuse at Redwood Rally in '23 as everything was rain soaked. I also managed to kill the fuel pump controller also at RR, because i forgot to reattach the access lid to the intank pump and it shorted the hot terminal to the chassis. Pretty simple fix to use the unused nitrous heater circuit and run the pump at full speed for the rest of the event. I know this will add a little time to the project, but it really pays off over time.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?Comment

I'd love to tear out ALL the wiring in this sucker, but I'm afraid that would be a little more work than I want! I am focusing on all the stuff I have added over the years.
The best thing I will be doing is putting a Leash OG4 in to make the wiring much cleaner & simpler.
Since the car is down, I think I am going to replumb the fuel lines too. The current fuel supply lines date back to the original Big Block Ranger!!!
