New England Dragway really is special and right now it is really quiet as the off-season days and weeks tick away. That will end though and when it does the place will be filled with more of the same nose, tire smoke, and fun as it has been since it opened in 1966.
This video comes from that track and it comes from what seems to be the AHRA Grand American event at Epping right around 1970. There are loads of awesome cars shown here. Top fuelers starting on the rollers, funny cars on parade and racing, pro stocks running, and the list goes on and on and on. There’s a black fuel altered which I have no knowledge or history on that looks so freaking bad ass in the pits, I was stunned to see it looked even cooler hauling down the track.
You will notice that a large portion of the guardrail at the track during this time in history was made of plumbers pipe. Not kidding. You’ll also see a car tangle with it and get wheeled off the track. Since September of 1966, New England Dragway has served the region’s drag racing populace. I’m grateful that it’s getting back on its feet to continue doing that.
This look back into history will put a smile on your face.
