1967 Mustang Falls to Third Place in the East African Safari Classic Rally

On the 24th we showed you the 1967 Mustang that was leading the 2009 East African Safari Classic, a rally event for cars 1974 and older. The news from yesterday (the 26th) is that the Mustang has had some clutch problems and brake fade and has fallen to third place behind some more typical sports cars, a Porsche 911 and Datsun 280Z.

In the 2007 race, the same Mustang broke a transmissio input shaft and dropped out. But driver Ian Duncan won overall in 1994, so he’s got the skills to make this happen if the car holds up.

The race is run for a punishing 10 days, and yesterday was day four. The finish is Tuesday, December 1, in Mombasa, and we hope to see the Mustang there.
