This is pretty awesome. The Ford LTD was a car owned by grandparents across America. It was not an exciting car, not a fast car, not a car that was designed to do anything but just shuttle people around in relative comfort. I remember the groaning V6 in the one my grandparents had. It was, of course, the same tan color that every other LTD seemed to be painted in as well. Little did I know as a kid that there was a bitchin’ version of that car which Ford managed to sell for a while and had I known about it then, I’d have likely been obsessed with finding one for the rest of my life. This video review of the Ford LTD LX is a great testament to the fact that a little bit more engine and a little bit more grip can change a snoozer of a car into on hell of a sleeper!
Making 165hp, running 16.5-second quarter mile times, and running to 60mph in less than 9 seconds this car was really pretty fast for the segment in its day. The reviewers are at first hesitating to call this a sports sedan and eventually give in and just call it that. We understand why. The thing does not have any of the normal sport sedan styling cues and outside of the red LTD LX badges just looks like any other run of the mill LTD.
Sure, Ford basically just sold a cop car to the public and what’s wrong with that?! This is a fun look back in a seldom seen car today. We wonder how many are left.
