We got word of a brand spanking new 2012 Mustang Super Cobra Jet that was at our favorite local chassis shop (Tube Chassis Designz) for some tweaks and dropped everything to go check it out. This car was bought through Tasca Ford in Rhode Island, and after the addition of wheelie bars, is headed to the new owner in the mid-west. Interestingly, the owner is also a principal in a large company that sponsors a prominent NHRA drag racer. He’s not looking for the spotlight, so we’ll leave it at that.
The car is neater than hell. We’ve been lucky enough to climb over every version of the Cobra Jet that Ford has released in the last few years and this one, the tweaked 2012 with the big blower on it is the best yet. These cars now have an aluminum block, where the older versions all had iron. They have made some suspension upgrades and generally improved the performance of the whole package.
This being a “Super” Cobra Jet is is packing a massive 4.0L blower as opposed to the “little” supercharger found on the majority of the other 50 Cobra Jets that are available this year. The “Super” CJs are legal for Super Stock competition, whereas the others can compete in Stock legally.
Many of the cars are finding their way into the hands of collectors, but seeing as Jon was installing wheelie bars on this Racer Red version, the car is going to be properly thrashed!

I would let ’em tattoo the CJ logo on my forehead if they would give me one of these wonderful beasts…
