2015 Mustang And 2015 F150 Are Ford’s Big Stories At Detroit Auto Show – Photos Here

2015 Mustang And 2015 F150 Are Ford’s Big Stories At Detroit Auto Show – Photos Here

Our photographer on the scene of the 2014 Detroit Auto show continues to send us dispatches from the bustling show floor as hordes of media swarm to whichever display is pouring the free drinks (literally as we type his, Audi is giving away beer). While we’re not at the show because we’re heading down the Florida for the PRO Winter Warm Up in a day, we’re still mighty interested in the goings on. Chevrolet had their moment in the sun this morning with the Corvette and Ford dropped the first photos and information about the 2015 F150 late last night….like almost 1am, which is when my phone woke me up and I virtually sleep-blogged this announcement. There’s lots to like about the new F150 with its aluminum body, three engine options ranging from the 2.7L EcoBoost small six to the 3.5L EcoBoost big six, to the 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 there seems to be a motor for everyone’s needs. We’re interested to see what kind of milage the 2.7L turbo mill returns. We bet it is lots but can it compete with the diesels that are creeping into half ton trucks? We’ll see.

As much of a firestorm as there was about the new Mustang when photos surfaced weeks back, we think that it is as a damned fine looking car. It had muscles and curves in the right places, we actually dig the back of it, and the whole thing definitely looks ready for a fight. The convertible is also a looker and after our experience with a 2014 convertible last summer, we’re certainly interested in jumping in and having some fun with this model when we get the chance in warmer months.

Sure, Corvette got lots of headlines, but the F150 is a more significant for its company (Ford) than the Corvette just because of how huge a profit center it is. Hit the link below, check out our photos and then tell us what you think of Ford’s working and fun loving pair!

it definitely has the new Ford styling theme, ala Fusion/Focus/Fiesta (which I’ll admit was borrowed from Aston Martin – which Ford previously owned, so somewhat legit), but it also clearly looks like a Mustang to me, so I think it is a job well done, given the boundary conditions the designers had to work within.

Ugh ! Seriously ? The ‘ Fusion ‘ argument ? Here ? I’d of though better of the folks participating on this site … unlike say … TTAC .. Jalopnik etc … Sigh ….

Oh well … Schools in session boys ! …. IF … you’re going to do any comparisons …. as the good Mr Neufeld said …. it’d have to be with the recent Aston Martin design language …. which was errr …. created during the Ford PAG reign of the company … so therefore if anyones copying anyone … it’d be Aston Martin copying Ford …

And yes …. the Fusion / Focus ( forgot that one ? ) are also using that design language … that once again …. Ford created for Aston Martin .

BUT …. if you two’d bother looking at the details of the grill …. well …. y’all just might take notice that in fact the Mustangs snout looks absolutely nothing like the Focus/Fusion snouts … in the slightest ( details boys … details )

So yeah …. its a freaking goram Mustang … with the old Lincoln LS / Jaguar [ which Ford PAG also owned ] S Type platform underneath …. and barely a hint … if at all … of Aston Martin in the nose

But in the end …. its a Mustang for the 21st Century … plain and simple

….. and … the Mustang beats the living H E double toothpicks out of that warmed over C6 with the Lady Gaga party dress on that GM’s trying to claim is in any way shape or form ….. new 😉

      2. Johnathan Martin

Just for clarity. Aston Martin has had that design language, and specifically that grill shape for years prior to the disasturous Ford “stewardship”. Simply look up DB4 or 1980s Vantage. For the record Mustang people will buy them in droves as they always have even during the Mustang II days. But what do I know I drive a 74 AMC Matador coupe. Have a great day.

That is a damn good looking Supra, where did you say you saw it?

I give up anyway. The new GMC looks so dang much like a Ford Super Duty, I thought it was one!

Mustang is growing on me. Whoever designed that F-150 needs to be publicly executed in a method not seen since the middle ages.

Are Ford an GM having an ugly contest? If so Chrysler has them beat with that monstrosity they call a van.

  4. Dan

The new Mustang looks like my daughter’s Tiburon. Not a bad look, but definitely not American muscle. The pony car as we knew it is dead.

  5. Casey Bakker

What started as a excellent execution of a classic muscle car, 2005, has degenerated into a euro japanese flavour of the month. Thought it was a camaro at first glance.

  6. Anthony Castillo

Casey, clean your glasses. The “new” Mustang looks like a Supra and a Fusion had a baby. Brian you really like the looks of this thing? I say it looks like Camaro will make it five or six years in a row. Heck, I think even the Challenger has a shot in 2015 to out sell this thing..

As for the truck/tank. I think all new truck designs have sucked for maybe the last five years or so, but the Fords have been the worst of the worst. And the new F-150 keeps that ugly streak going strong. These days trucks look like boxy tanks or like they were built at Lego Land.

    1. Beagle

Tank is about right. I have a 97 F250 and it looks big until you park it next to the new (insert brand name) 1/2 tons!

The Supr-Fusion is definitely growing on me. Maybe I can get a 2013 for cheap now? Nah.
