Now this is BangShift approved hot rodding. Found by one of our members and posted on or forums, this 1980 Toyota Corolla sports 454ci of big block Chevy power. Amazingly the motor fits into the engine bay of the little furrin’ car really well. We dig it from our east coast offices because we haven’t seen an early 1980s Toyota product in these parts for ages. Those cars rusted faster than Vegas, and that’s saying something!
The Q-ship factor is in full effect. Factory wheels and tires, interior, and even (scarily) the factory Toyota rear end which is a smaller knock off of the Ford 9″. Other than an aftermarket shifter in the car and an exhaust note that is about 50 octaves lower than the original sewing machine engine, you’d never tell what tire frying fury the ‘Yoda is capable of.
The engine is pretty mild with a cam, headers, and intake, but then again, it isn’t forced to move a lot of weight, so even a mild big block would provide miles of smiles. A small blister was added to the hood for carb clearance, but even that could be explained away to the casual stoplight grand prix victim as some sort of JDM part.
Located in Arizona, it is a very clean car. As we mentioned above, old Japanese cars simply do not exist in New England where road salt consumed them at an alarming rate so that kicks the cool factor up even a little more for us. The seller claims that the car has never been raced, which makes sense, because that rear end isn’t going to hold up to any surface that forces the tires to bite. It would be fun as hell trying to blow it up though!
Thanks for the tip 1988MonteCarloSS!
