ADRL Shopping for Race Tracks?

ADRL Shopping for Race Tracks?

The American Drag Racing League, more commonly known as the ADRL, is the doorslammer-centric sanctioning body which has takent he world of drag racing by storm over the last few years. ADRL’s innovative concept of literally giving away event tickets has resulted in massive crowds and a series exploding in popularity. This popularity has left many wondering what the next step will be for the organization. Through an uncompleted business transaction recently, we’re getting a peek behind the curtain.

Apparently, the ADRL was involved in talks to purchase Gateway International Raceway, in Madison, Illinois. This facility, which has an NHRA national event drag strip and NASCAR oval, is partially owned by a couple of different parties and the deal didn’t progress based on that.

Here’s a report from the St. Louis Post Dispatch that outlines what the deal was and why it didn’t come to fruition. It’s exciting to think these guys are looking to grow like this. They’re a breath of fresh air in the philosophically staid world of professional drag racing.
