Alan Johnson Develops Bad Ass Pro Mod Hemi Engine, Incredible Head Flow Numbers

Most people know Alan Johnson as one of the greatest nitro drag racing crew chiefs of all time. Many however, do not know that Johnson is one of the leading developers and suppliers of top level drag racing engines to the alky and nitro ranks. Billet block and heads, manifolds, cranks, connecting rods, and tons of other parts come out of his California skunk works. His newest offering is aimed right at the outlaw Pro Mod set and guys running in the ADRL. More specifically it is aimed at racer running blown combos in that series (or any where massive engines and superchargers are the way to fly).

The billet block features 5.3″ bore spacing (the same size that Sonny Leonard just pushed to over 1,000ci for a customer!), a 4.75″ bore, 10.4″ deck height, and 70 (!!)mm cam tunnels! While the block stuff is impressive it is the specs on the cylinder heads that will bend your mind.

Also machined of billet aluminum, these freaking monsters sport 123cc chambers, 486cc intake and 192cc exhaust port volumes, 2.65″ intake and 1.925″ exhaust valves, and at an inch of lift they flow 624 CFM on the intake and 456 CFM on the exhaust. While flow numbers aren’t everything, event the most jaded amongst us has to smile when they read that.

Freaking nuts! The price tag on these monsters certainly won’t be small, but we’re sure that there will be more than a couple racers lined up to score the first few off the line. This is AJPE’s first foray into the Pro Mod ranks and they worked with Mike Janis at the legendary Jan-Cen Racing Engines shop to develop this deal. That probably means that Janis will be packing the first of these heaters. The results should be bad ass!

Here’s the flyers we got about the engine.
