Art Arfons’ Green Monster on eBay

Art Arfons’ Green Monster on eBay

One of the most significant cars in the history of American motorsports is currently for sale on eBay. The “Green Monster” of Art Arfons, a vehicle that was one half of the greatest LSR battle the world has ever known through the 1960s, and which later went 650mph in the 1970s, is an awesome piece of work.

Boiled down to its base elements, it is nothing more than a General Electric J-79 turbine engine mounted to a chassis and sheatherd in some swoopy looking, hand formed panels. Arfons had many triumphs in the Green Monster on the Bonneville salt flats and it really cemented his status as an iconic American speed hero.

The car, last we knew was at the Petersen Museum, more specifically, in the parking garage of the Petersen Museum. We hope that if the car sells the new owner has the motor serviced and at least fires it up once in memory of a unique American genius named Art Arfons.
