Asphalt Track Goes Back to Dirt

Asphalt Track Goes Back to Dirt

Real stock car racing was born on the dirt tracks of the Southern US. As it turns out, dirt track racing is still as popular as it ever was, with local heroes banging fenders and hanging the tail out on Saturday nights all across Dixie even today. Hell, there are even asphalt tracks converting back to dirt!

RacinToday.com reported that Senoia Speedway outside of Atlanta, Georgia, watched the crowds dwindle after the former dirt track switched to asphalt. The guys who run the place decided to do the logical thing and convert the place back to dirt. Technically it’s clay, we guess.

The track owners have said that the response from fans and drivers has been very positive to the switch and they hope the gate recepits reflect that enthusiasm when the season starts.
