Aussie Government to Auction Brett Stevens Entire Racing Operation

Aussie Government to Auction Brett Stevens Entire Racing Operation

The Australian government plans ot auction off the entire racing operation of Brett Stevens, one of the legends of straight line racing down under. Last February Stevens was arrested in a sweeping series of drug raids and charged with drug manufacturing and drug trafficking. The government claims to have nowhere to store the stuff. This is eerily similar to the story we reported on in late December where the US government is auctioning the car collection of a guy that is up on federal charges.

Stevens was an extremely popular drag racer down under during his heyday and that wasn’t too long ago. He and Victor Bray are normally mentioned in the same breath when discussions about great Aussies racers come up. Stevens raced nitro Harleys, and Top Doorslammers (The Oz equivalent of our Pro Mods) with great success. He had a long run with Jack Daniels as his primary sponsor.

The stuff up for auction is heavy duty. It is all race cars, bikes, and few exhibition “burnout” cars that he used to perform in as well. The burnout cars are a uniquely Australian deal. Think of them as looking like a Pro Mod but acting like a car on an ice rink. They are designed to make massive tire smoke, spin around, and wind the fans up. All of which Stevens did with regularity.

Victor Bray is quoted in the story we found on the Courier-Mail newspaper website as saying that the cars are all top shelf and could be competitive as they sat with little to no upgrading necessary. Stevens apparently did not oppose the sale, but was nervous that the cars may fall into the hands of people who would not know how to use them and there is certainly a potential for injury in that scenario.

According to the story, the government will hold all the funds until Stevens legal fate is decided.
