Auto Trader Classics Find: A Gorgeous 1938 Lincoln With a Custom Coach Body

If you dig past our love of monster trucks, weed whacker pulling tractors, header flames, and wheelstanders, you’ll also see that we’re suckers for the elegant machines that wealthy folks owned in the late 1930s and early 1940s. This 1938 Lincoln Model K is one of the finer looking examples of an American chassis topped with a European style body built by a custom coach builder.

This body was built by the famous Brunn and Company Coachworks of Buffalo, NY. Brunn was one of the original American coach building companies and had already been in business for thirty years when they got the contract to modify this Model K for a man named Walter Weiss who happened to be a big wheel at a drug company. Per his orders they fitting the car with a version of their Brunn Cabriolet body.

We think that this big car (145″ wheelbase!) is a real looker. The split windshield, stylized and dramatic fenders and prominent grill all scream, “I AM IMPORTANT!” In those days, you really were if you could afford to drop the coinage necessary to own and operate a car like this.

One fun fact? This is a coupe, and remember we mentioned that long wheelbase? Each of the doors is an astounding five feet long!
