Santa is gearing up to make his yearly lap of the Earth in just about two weeks. We all know that the power is provided by a pack of flying reindeer, but let’s play a game of “what if”? What if a union dispute caused a walk off and Santa had to replace the reindeer with a good old fashioned internal combustion engine? What would he choose?
Gasonline, diesel, alky, nitro? Wedge headed, Hemi headed, Flatheaded? Does the jolly ol’ elf have any brand loyalty? It seems like power adders would be necessary, but then again who the hell knows?
You’re the chief mechanic at the North Pole and you need to get this motor in and wired by next week! What’s Santa going to have you drop in the sleigh for power?
BangShift Question of the Day: What Motor Would Santa Run in His Sleigh?

572 Chevy
had to paste picture in Forum… a 600″ blown Boss 9
Santa’s a derivative trend follower.
He’s uncreative, cheap and lazy, too.
And he needs to make sure everyone stays asleep.
Besides, GMPP would likely cut him a check . . .
So without any doubt, Santa would run a . . . Yawn . . . LESS-X . . . . Zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Nahhhhhhh …. Santa’s a jolly old Elf [ have a look at his very red nose ] and knows how to have a seriously good time .
So he’d stuff a quad turbo’d Merlin V12 in the sled … make more damn [ fine ] noise than three P51’s on full song combined … and go like hell in the process 😉
GuitarSlinger has the right idea, Santa is going to need some light-weight aircraft goodies. Most likely some bad-ass hot rod tubro-prop… I’m going to say turbine for speed & power, turning a propeller for some tradition. After all, Santa is a traditional kind of guy!
Tree’d me…
Santa has Santa magic. He can run anything he wants and probably can change it at will. So he might cruise on a Toyota 4-banger and – BLINK – a 392 Hemi if he needs to pour on the coal. Then maybe a Cummins ISB if he’s climbing up in elevation. And maybe a Boss 429 just ’cause he likes the music.
Santa Magic……..
Dan
A 6.7 Cummins 😉
700 cubic inches of blown and injected Chrysler Hemi. That the only thing that would get him around the world in one night.
I agree with you, Santa would use a blown and injected Chrysler Hemi.
Santa drives a prius, he’s a greener.
That’s why I never liked him. 🙂
All the mountain motors hemi’s etc would be great but for the long haul and hi altitudes and loads of cargo Santa has no option but to run a blown & turbo charged Detroit Diesel. cuz Santa has to get r done!
I am partial to the turbo’d Detroit Diesel. Add a little reindeer piss, and he’s off for his one nite, round the world pass.
Blown MOPAR HEMI of massive C.I.D.
Moran engine as it’s HUGE Boosted and the block is manufactured at the master engine machinist shop “Weston Machine” where I have all my work done!
