BangShift Question Of The Day: Show, Cruise, or Race? What’s Your Favorite Thing To Do With Your Junk? Why?

BangShift Question Of The Day: Show, Cruise, or Race? What’s Your Favorite Thing To Do With Your Junk? Why?

So last week was a good one in the life of ol’ Buford T Justice, our BangShift 1987 Caprice project. I think I drove the car about 500 miles over the course of the week. I hit two cruise nights and then auto-crossed the thing to within an inch of its life on Sunday. The coolest part of the deal is that my wife and boys were with me for virtually all of the fun. As I was driving home from the SCCA auto-cross, buzzing down the highway at 70mph and feeling pretty well beat tired, I got to thinking about the previous week and which particular event was my favorite and I had a hard time deciding.

The cruise nights are cool because they’re low key and easy to show up and slide out of. You can move at your own pace, BS with pals, oogle junk that’s lots nicer than yours, and chomp down a ham sandwich off the trunk of your car when dinner time rolls around. Racing is cool because it is intense and fun. It is an environment where you can actually put all those speed parts to work. It is also a place to really get your brain in gear with respect to focus and concentration.

My car isn’t nice enough looking to be a show car and isn’t fast enough to be a race car, but last week it was a hell of a lot of fun to pretend that it was both. What’s your favorite type of automotive activity involving your car? Do you like a more structured car show, a low key cruise night, or a race of any type?

REAL autox, not that AUTO ZONE, let’s line the whole lot with cones and spray paint so the muscle car boys can find their way around! GOOD to see you out at an airport where they use pointer cones and “Chicago boxes”!!!!

I like cruisers that kick ass. None of that drive em slow crap for me.
However I do have a 9 second Demon that I race at the local strip on street race night.
Showcars are just for that. Shows. Can’t have any fun with them.

Tragically, these days, my “junk” really is junk.

Mostly, I just try to avoid being seen in it.

Seat time is good. It doesn’t really matter much where I end up driving to, or what’s happening there, as long as I get there. Yesterday’s adventure in the hot rod was a trip to the grocery store, Walmart, and the Diner for lunch.

Racing for sure. It was nice to finally meet you in person on Sunday, and real fun to watch that hulk heaving around the cones. You should come out to ADSI on the 19th if you can, more practice = better times.

I prefer anything where I get to beat on my car. Car shows are fun tobsee other people’s rides and chat up other car people.

I like to go to cruises on Friday nights and races on Saturdays, however like a drug addict in need of a fix I can’t get any because Missouri keeps getting hit with rain on Thursdays – Sundays.

First thing I’m planning on once I get the Trans Am back on the road is the Wilmington Mile. After that I want to do a auto cross with the SCCA down at a air strip in Columbus ,Indiana. Then either Driving School with track time with a instructor, or a open road race.

I enjoy documenting the hobby, so I put my camera in my car that most BangShifters wouldn’t be caught dead in, and go take pictures.

I like everything from working on my vehicles to cruising them, great way to reduce stress.
