With cool names like Rocket, Spitfire, Mustang, Super Chief, El Camino, Cheetah, and Stingray, along with many many more, the ’50s and ’60’s car model names were all about image, power, and coolness. This made us question, What’s the coolest car or truck model name ever? Is it one of the iconic ’50s and ’60’s names? Or is it one from the ’70s like Heavy Chevy, Swinger, or Demon? When you really start to think about it, there are a lot of cool model names.
But we aren’t here to discuss all of them.
We’re here to determine which model name, regardless of make or country of origin, is the coolest?
You tell us.
Corvair ”Spider”
Spyder.
THE JUDGE
Case CLOSED
This is more of a dealership name but always like the Royal Bobcat GTO. Also Duster Twister.
Marauder (after the WWII Martin B-26 Marauder)
Definition:To rove and raid in search of plunder; To raid or pillage for spoils.
The Buick Electra 225. Only in the late fifties would a car division put the length of the car in feet (22.5) on the car!
Mercury Cyclone of course.
But going WWWAAAAAAAYYYYY Back, how about Marmon Wasp?
Interceptor
Mercury Comet
GMC’s “Gentleman Jim”? ‘Not really that manly, huh?
Maybe Desoto’s “Adventurer”? I believe they had cool-lookin’ chrome helmeted Conquistador on the hood.
Ah, that was so long ago…
Plymouth Duster, Quick Claims Adjuster!
Or Gentleman Jim’s cousin Beau James. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3328675/1975-gmc-sierra-classic-1500-regular-cab/.
The Boss was the best ever.
Dodge Demon or Warlock pickup. Take your pick.
Studebaker “Avanti.” Way ahead of most.
My vote is on DeSoto’s FireDome
It’s like thunderdome, but with hemi’s and fire.
Or UltraVan, because supervan just wasn’t good enough.
Roadmaster
Wildcat
Hudson Hornet Hollywood… glitz, glam & go all wrapped together
RoadRunner.Or if its Ron Ward its RustRunner
Studebaker Dictator
“Fire” was used a lot, although I wonder about the wisdom of it.
Starfire
Jetfire
Spitfire
Firebird
Firedome
Rebel “Machine”. /conversation
the thing lol
Mercury Marquis with the DeSade option package……..
Roadmaster second, Road Runner
Unimog is just fun to say.
Mercury Turnpike Cruiser is just so descriptive.
I think though I’ll go with Barracuda. It sounds fast and aggressive.
Dodge Demon.
Riviera,Toronado,Torino. Impala.
Ive been a volkswagen lover for years, and ive always like the name Scirocco, which means “hurricane force wind”
I love my El Camino but the best has to be GTO. (oldrodder)
I’m a Chevy guy, too. However… it came out of the showrooms with an aura of something new, special, powerful, quick, something to be feared on the streets. Considered by aficionados to be the “first” muscle car, Pontiac did it with the simple name “GTO.”
i’d have to go with either GREMLIN,or (kaiser-frazier) DRAGON—- a mythical troll,or a mythical beast
Stingray or Sting Ray, depending on the model year. Also, at the time, Chrysler was considered very risqué in naming the Dart “Swinger”.
C’mon, it has to be the “Touring Bruce” by Subaru.
or the
Gravel Express also by Subaru.
But really it has to be the Wildcat.
Demon “Cute little Devil”
Hudson Hornet
AC Cobra “Dragon Snake”
