There are lots of annoying arguments people get into about cars and racing. Between which racers are the most talented to which cars are the coolest, people will go around in circles for hours over this stuff. Our question of the day is kind of along those lines, but it requires a little more thought for you to defend your answer. We’re wondering which modern professional race car is the most impressive for the task it performs. Is it the singularly minded top fuel dragster that does one thing well, accelerate. Is it a Formula One car that has more technological whiz-bangery on a single car in the grid than the entirety of the Iranian space program? Perhaps it is a 410ci Sprint car that can pull power wheelies out of a corner on greasy dirt. Could it possibly be a monster truck with its tube chassis, mid mounted engine, multi-ton girth, and ability to land jumps that last longer than some small plane flights.
We’re not asking you to pit these vehicles against one another as much as we are asking you to look at each (that we mentioned above and whatever cars/trucks/etc we forgot!) on its own merits and then tell us which vehicle is the most impressive given its task to complete. Every modern racing machine has been the product of an amazing evolution of technology, human innovation, and old school trial/error experiments. Which species has evolved the furthest from its humble roots?
BangShift Question Of The Day: Which Modern Professional Race Car Is The Most Impressive For What It Does?
Although im not a fan f1 cars are pretty impressive, but nothing beats a top fuel dragster!!!
Top Fuel Dragster. 0 to 300 mph in 3 seconds. Got to be the ride of a life time.
24 Hours of Le-Mons
Tough question, in terms of being the most impressive based on what they do… it would have to be Top Fuel Dragsters. The amount of stress the chassis and rear tires endure, blows my mind every time I see one go down the track safely. As far as the most technologically advanced I thinkj we would all agree F1 cars take that award hands down. But for me the most impressive to watch are Trophy Trucks or Class 1 Buggies.
Good question . So lets see . F1 and Indy Car has become a travesty with all the push to pass DRS etc ….. Drag Racing in general is but a shadow of its former self …… Sports Car / LeMans has become an Audi walk over seeing as no one else is taking it seriously ….. NASCAR has become the professional wrestling of the auto racing world …. WRC has become dull and homogenized
So I’m going to have to go with the Off Road world … e.g Dakar – Baja … and especially those raving maniacs over Iceland way and their insane off road SUV’s JEEPs and Buggies . Those cars are REAL … not virtual and need to be engineered rather than computerized to hold up … function and race
Outlaw drag radial cars to me is just insane! These cars for the most part have a stock body with a 2-3000 hp jet pack strapped to it!
I’d have to go with monster trucks. Getting a multi-ton truck to leap 20 feet in the air with only as much room to accelerate or brake as you can find in an indoor stadium is pretty insane. And getting it to survive the landing, repeatedly, is not an easy task, either.
A World of Outlaws sprint car, it is a fuel altered that turns left.
Lik Duh, 10,000 HP from a 500CI V8
Supermodifieds. Take a big block Chevy with 900+ horsepower, tilt it over 45°, attach it to a maze of tubing, a set of gummy asphalt tires, stick a big-ass wing on it and turn left so hard and fast it will blur your vision and affect your digestive process.
Fuel dragster by far, 5 Gs at take off, 7Gs when you hit the chutes , and 318 mph in 1000 ft. and 3.70s in that same 1000 ft.
Id have to say its between f1 and top fuel. While im not a fan myself, the technology that is put into the those cars is amazing. not to mention the power they get from such small engines and how high they can rev them. Top fuel cars are just amazing and the people who decide to sit in one. Anything that produces more horsepower in one cylinder than all the vehicles in my driveway combined is pretty awesome.
LeMans. Where else do you have to run flat out for 24 hours at speeds that reach over 200 mph. While passing a bunch of slower traffic constantly.
Audi has this down to an art…with a diesel engine powering the beast.
I’ll be impressed by F1 next year, when they bring back the turbos.
Ou6tlaw late model dirt cars with there funky rear steering are pretty impressive? But Monster Trucks have come along way and do some amazing things for there size.
