BangShift Question Of The Day: Who Had The Best Drag Racing Rivalry?

BangShift Question Of The Day: Who Had The Best Drag Racing Rivalry?

After watching the video of Warren Johnson and Scott Geoffrion’s epic burndown, along with Garlits and Carbone, it got us thinking about racing rivalries and specifically those on the drag strip. Clearly there was no love lost between WJ and the Dodge Boys, and Tony Pedregon and John Force are not going to hang out at Christmas anymore, but there are tons more that made us go hmmmm as well.

What about Snake and Mongoose? Or Larson and Lutz? And how about Bob Glidden and Lee Shepherd? Garlits and Muldowney?

We’ve given you a little head start here to get the old wheels a turning, but lets here it from you. Who had the best drag racing rivalry? Modern or OG? Hmmmm now we’re thinking even harder.

If you didn’t see the WJ vs Geffrion burndown video, click here to watch it.

Okay, so tell us. Who had, or has, the best drag racing rivalry ever?

I agree Ron, those two guys were characters right out of a book! NHRA needs more rivalries and guys like that 😉

My first thought was Bill vs Ronnie, too but I figured the real rivalry there was Bill vs Mopar! However, if we need to define “greatest” it has to be the rivalry that probably did the most for drag racing bringing the sport to the masses. That rivalry would have to be Big John Mazmanian vs Stone, Woods and Cooke. Those two AA/GS match racers promoted the sport in its infancy. If ol’ wally Parks were weighing in on this, he’d probably agree.

How about Lee Beard & Force, Doug Hebert&ClayMillican, Connie Kallitta& anyone who had the balls to piss him off.

Its gotta be Dyno Don and Arnie Beswick….Dyno Don won a lot of their matches but NO ONE could back up as fast to the starting line as Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick.
