The NASCAR look is, in my eyes, the only thing the sport has honestly given to hot-rodders in general that they can be proud of. You can make all the redneck jokes, left-turn jokes in the world about the actual race series, but that look on the right car is gorgeous. Wide-ass tires on all-business wheels, a proper racing cage, and the low not too low stance can turn some of the most pedestrian-looking rides into a boulevard’s nightmare. It’s the perfect mix of form follows function. If your engine has the power to back the look, all the better, and if it sounds the part, you can take my money now. Many cars have been done up over the years to mimic the look properly, including every known platform used in the racing series, and pony cars can pull the same look off since the vintage Trans-Am look is similar.
But what about things that never raced in NASCAR? Would it look right or not? I honestly never gave it much thought until I saw Benjamin Virga’s photoshop of the Cadillac Eldorado, and it clicked for me right then and there. The black-and-chrome Caddy looks like violence in a tuxedo in the picture, and while the front-wheel drive wouldn’t be good for the track, the 500ci V8 fits the bill. I think I’d like to see a 1970 Chrysler 300 done up with the hidden headlight grille and all, with a very stout Wedge motor under the hood. On the small end,I’d like to see a late 1980’s Chrysler LeBaron done up with the new Hemi, RWD, and styling cues taken from the ARCA body that got banned before it was raced.
What about you? Fullsize? Compact? Truck? Maybe you always wanted to see a Lincoln Town Car with a truly angry demeanor. Whatever the case, take a shot and let us know below what car could pull the look off for you!
Holy @#$! that Caddy is amazing! “Violence in a tux”, pretty close to what I called a particularly nasty Lincoln Mark VII awhile back, “thug in a tux”. Well put Bryan. I’ll have to circle back to this, I can’t get that Caddy out of my head long enough to visualize any others.
Gnnnnnnnrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I have messed my pants looking at that Caddy!
If snoop dogg got into Nascar, that would be his ride for sure. I think it looks mean!!
AMC Pacer.
1976 Ford LTD/Mercury Grand Marquis
I was just thinking “late 1980s Chrysler LeBaron” when I started reading this, before I saw you’d actually mentioned it. I still think it would be a great build.
’70-72 Monte Carlo. Although it was a stupid movie, the Monte at the beginning of Fast and Furious 3 is pretty baddass.
Out of the early F&F movies, that car is the ultimate. Especially when it’s just sitting in the parking lot.
those were in nascar n usac
Buick Riviera 63-73…Cadillacs from the sixties..Imperials and big Chryslers 1965-75..4 door Caprice 77-96…4 door Chevelle 64-77..4 door Fairlane and Galaxie 1955-1975.
NASCAR all the things!
Toyota Corona.
That Eldorado is eeeevil! The mid to late 80’s g bodies all look good with this treatment. But I’ve got a soft spot for first gen s-series blazers…check out Butch King’s nasty little dime.
I am not a GM guy but I would totally roll in this Caddy. Totally awesome. I think that 66 Lincoln trar from yesterday would be much better lookin with this treatment
I’ve been wanting to build a ’70-’71 Thunderbird Sportroof in stock car style for years… Boss 429 for extra points!
Once saw a Rambler Classic painted to match Mark Martin’s Valvoline number 6 T-Bird.
Chevrolet Citation hatchback coupe (& show some pity on it by making it RWD)
I always thought one of those 80s Volvos would be a cool stock car. I also would like to see mid 60s trucks done in a phantom craftsman truck series style. Just picture a Sweptline, Apache 10, and F100 going 3 wide into a turn.
Always wanted to see any Lincoln Mark III up to a Mark VII.
Those 1980’s Dodge Omnis (2 door hatch)
