Sure we’ve all heard the stories of women putting on makeup while smoking a cigarette, talking on the phone, and shifting all at the same time. And we’ve all seen the dude trying to text and smack his kids, and whatever all at the same time. But what about the on and off the throttle guy that you know? Or the turn the wheel with your hands INSIDE the wheel rather than on the outside thing? Or messing with the radio? Or? Ultimately each of these things may or may not bug all of us. And some may want to make us kill people.
For me it’s the hand inside the wheel thing. And the not paying any attention thing. And the not knowing how to use the skinny pedal on the right to merge thing. Okay, so a lot of things bug me.
What are the things that OTHER PEOPLE do behind the wheel that drive you nuts?
Not paying attention because of texting.
My two biggest pet peeves are texting and women puting on makeup. Although, some people can be driving along doing nothing, but doing it very poorly.
Driving like they are the only person that matters or driving a large SUV like it is a nimble little car.
When they are doing anything but driving.
Hmmmmm, let’s see……What was I doing again?……………..Oh, yeah, I was driving.
No turn signals and nearly coming to a complete stop prior to turning, all without pulling to the side in which they turn to let other traffic by
Hand inside steering wheel,Check. My wife does this in her BMW,WHY?
Over use of brakes drives me nuts. My SIL cant COAST he gains speed then brakes to slow car, on, off, on just drives me nuts. I’ve told my daughter to make sure she teaches my grandson to drive when the time comes, BTW he’s only 4 (Grandson not SIL)
People STOPPING at YIELD signs when nothing is needing yielding. Texas people will understand the biggest problem with this, they have YIELD signs at the top of the on ramps to the freeway.
This last one applies to pedestrians. WHY DO PEOPLE WALK DIAGNALLY ACROSS PARKING LOTS? Right down the middle of the lane. GTF out of my way!
So many things to list, so little time…
There’s a button to disengage the cruise control to slow down just a bit, you DON’T need to brake.
People going UNDER the speed limit in the PASSING lane… it’s a freakin passing lane, if you’re not passing anyone MOVE OVER.
People who drive slow and accelerate when you go to pass them.
Turn signals, they’re there for a reason, learn to use them.
It’s not actually “driving” but people who can’t park… I mean how hard is it to fit a Corolla between these lines? If I can fit my Suburban there you should have a problem fitting your compact.
People who are just not paying attention to what they’re doing, you’re not sitting on your couch, you’re driving, please pay attention.
It really took a weight off my chest, we have reunions for this, drivers anonymous? I’ll be back next week
As a person who drives for a living in the worst city in the US to drive if I let all my annoyances get to me I’d have to be hospitalized and on meds by the weekend.
Some of higher level annoyances include: Driving with their left foot on the brake. Slower traffic not staying right. Slow ass drivers in the carpool lane. People who cant parallel park taking a month getting into a space. People who are lost and forget their others on the road around who dont want while they figure out where to go. The first person at the street light always the last to see it turn green because they pick up the phone everytime the car stops moving.
Generally, I despise the DMV for continuing to hand out licenses to anyone with twenty bucks and a.heartbeat without any care to if they can actually operate a car.
Not merging at the same speed as the traffic. Coming to a complete stop to turn right into a parking lot or side street. Having someone pull all the way up to a intersection on a narrow street, when I’m in a big truck or pulling a trailer, and then they stare at you and wont move. My wife driving, my mother in law driving or my sister driving.
Another pet peeve of mine and many others is spandex clad bicyclists with headphones on that can’t SHARE THE ROAD. They bitch all the time about motorists and their rights but when it comes to it, they are the worst offenders.
I cycle and I agree with you. There is a ton of arrogant cyclists out there just asking to get hit.
Also, whats with the guy (or girl, not gender specific..) in the right lane that decides to finally pull into the left lane and pass that car he’s been nearly tailgaiting for a mile only when you’re nearly on him and doing 5 – 10 mph faster than him?
The guy that pulled out in front of me the other night– he was pulling out of a bar and was clearly drunk. My wife called 911 as we kept back a safe distance. The cops in the next town pulled him over. It felt good to do my part to take a drunk off the road.
Then there was the lady that pulled in front of us on her way into the bar (back in 2005). She was already drunk and wanted more. Our car was totaled.
Most of our driving is on two lane highways in the mountains. It’s great when you have a car that corners like a cat on a carpet, but it can get frustrating during the summer months with the vacation traffic. My biggest peeve is when you come up upon a line of 4 to 6 cars being held back by one doing 85 – 90 km/h in a 100 zone. You know it’s going to take at least 20 minutes to get by them and drive the pace your comfortable with and enjoy. But then you hit a passing lane, all of a sudden everyone’s trying to qualify for the Daytona 500. Everyone cranks it up to 120- 130 km/h, the line might pass 1 or 2 slow guys but they won’t surrender the passing lane if there life depended on it. Here’s what gets me, As soon as the lane runs out they all slow down to a sub 100 pace again! Argh!!!
Great questions. I agree with the comments.
Texting: a car that is slowing down on and leaning to the right;
No turn signals: a simple gesture really helps drivers who make quick decisions;
Tailgating me while I am doing 65 mph in the slow lane: sheesh.
And everyone hates the tourist going 60 in the fast lane with the turn signal blinking. Too funny.
Running red lights! Here in Maynard Mass. people think it’s only a suggestion.
flatlanders in the mountains, go 80on the plains hit some gentle sweepers in the mountains and their down to 25. and they say abike with 160 hp is stupid , works for me.
Basically my pet peeves boil down to one of two things.
1. Someone that is not giving driving enough attention and is creating a dangerous situation for themselves and everyone around them.
2. Someone that has never learned how to drive properly and is creating a dangerous situation for themselves and everyone around them.
