On the very first isle at yesterday’s Pomona Swap Meet, we found the coolest motorhome, and it’s a good thing we didn’t have $5500 to spend or we just might have driven it home. This 1971 or 1972 C30 Chevrolet based motorhome not only features one of the coolest front ends in truck history, but also a patio (with sliding glass door), and sleeping room for up to 4 people. Sounds perfect to us. We’d lay it out on Air Ride from Ridetech of course, and otherwise leave it alone. Okay, maybe an LS Swap and 6L80E would be a good addition, but only if we had to.
While standing there drooling, and vocalizing my amazing appreciation for this fine machine, my buddy Dannie Pinard was rambling on about something white trash, blah, blah, blah. At that moment I was too excited to listen to him, and all of his words were akin to Charlie Browns teacher.
After getting home and checking out the photos I took of this thing, it got me thinking. I love RV’s. LOVE THEM! All kinds honestly, but especially cool old ones and the super fancy giant ones that the rockstars get to own. But if I had the choice, and could only have one, which one would I choose? Hmmmmm this is tough!
So I’m posing this question to you, our faithful BangShifters. Would you rather have a hot rod cool, vintage or classic RV, or would you rather have some new double throw down fancy beast like the Newell in the photo below? We won’t judge you for your answers. Be honest. (Okay, if you have to be honest, so do we. We WILL judge you. But that’s okay, we’ll still love you even if we don’t agree with you.)
So what’s it going to be? Cool and old, or huge and new?
If you’re gonna live in it, and Chad, chances are you would get to live in that for bringing it home… go for big.
If you gonna go camping for a weekend across the street from a clean toilet, full size shower, unlimited hot water, and have 50a service to the buggy for the microwave, coffee pot, and hairdryer running at the same time, take the Chevy.
They all end up leaking it seems. The Chevy “looks” cool and is tiny home approved, but if I’m gonna have to stay in it for very long, Might as well get the one with the slide outs and the diesel genset already built in… on the other hand, neither are 4wd so as bug out buggy’s go, I’d nix both of them.
Gotta go big as well. Camper trucks are cool in a way, but that sliding glass door/patio thing kills it for me, and all of the camper/van conversions from the ’70s bounce and sway like a fat girl doing the Macarena. Give me a big diesel bus and I’ll be happy.
I’d take it. I like the 70’s to 80’s ones. All need new drivetrain’s though and likely a complete gutting and interior re-model.
a converted Flexable like the guy i’ve been seeing at the Goog guys shows.
wow sorry, GoodGuys
I would love it swap in a 6.0 vortec and an over drive trans
the sliding glass door would go because I would convert it into a toy hauler
At least the old Chevy wouldn’t be worth more than my house…..
That Chevy is my dream come true. I would fix up the camper, and have a lot of fun, then swap a duramax in down the road!
I would have to go with big to live in, but my heart says small is cool
