The Answer To Yesterday’s Test Of Your Gearhead Knowledge and a Few Extra Photos You’ll Want To See!

The Answer To Yesterday’s Test Of Your Gearhead Knowledge and a Few Extra Photos You’ll Want To See!

Once again, the BangShift readership nailed the gearhead challenge we threw down yesterday cold. After the weirdo Lincoln engine, the old Model A block, and the Willys Jeep engine, a famous V8 wasn’t much of a brain teaser to you all. As was correctly guessed, the block in the photos below is a Boss 429 Ford. Some of the giveaways are the screw in freeze plugs, the HP 429 cast into the front, the four bolt mains, etc. The Boss 429 was coming into the shop as a trickle, literally bits and pieces coming in here and there. The heads were present and accounted for, with their cartoonishly large ports. The neat valve covers were there, too.

One of the more mundane, but interesting things that we saw come in while at the shop were the stock exhaust manifolds for the engine to fit a Mustang. Not surprisingly, these things are worth a mint on eBay and other places because so few of the engines were made and so many of those ditched the manifolds for headers. They look like something from a school bus!

Scroll down to see the manifolds, a couple more photos of the block and a really neat engine that was hiding in the back of the shop!
