BangShift Video Bonanza Question of the Day: Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane or Sheriff J.W. Pepper

BangShift Video Bonanza Question of the Day: Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane or Sheriff J.W. Pepper

The era of the “Southern Sheriff” as a television and movie character peaked in the 1980s. Seems like they were growing on trees for a while, but when pulled off correctly, they made for great additions to any show or film. A recent trip to the deli got our wheels turning about two of the best. One is a household name, the other is far lesser known. We’re wondering which of them you’d choose to protect your southern hamlet!

First off, the guy everyone knows, the bumbling Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane. Played by actor James Best, he beamed into American homes each week as the sidekick for the nefarious JD “Boss” Hogg. His inability to catch the Duke boys and propensity for wrecking squad cars made him an endearing member of the cast of characters in Hazzard County.

Here’s Rosco and Boss Hogg in action:

In this corner, we have the contender, Sheriff J.W. Pepper, James Bond’s unlikely sidekick in Live and Let Live as well as for a brief time in The Man With the Golden Gun. We consider Pepper to be a poor man’s Beaufort T. Justice as he’s hefty, brash, cocky, and loud, much like the way Jackie Gleason played Justice in Smokey and the Bandit. Pepper has a bunch of great lines in the James Bond flicks and the over the top manner in which the actor plays him gets us every time.
Make sure to watch both clips as the second one features the famous “corkscrew” jump and some blatant product placement for AMC!
Nobody cuts and runs on Sheriff J.W. Pepper!
..And that means you smart ass!
