Bigfoot To Sport Chevy Body and Engine at MLB All-Star Game, Panic Ensues

There are few things more iconic in motorsports than the series of Bigfoot monster trucks. Since Bob Chandler built the first one back in Missouri several decades ago, they’ve evolved from lumbering, leaf sprung monsters to high flying, tube chassis racing machines. The common thread? They’ve all been Fords…until now.

The Bigfoot monster truck that will be displayed at the 2010 MLB All-Star Game will have a Chevy engine and body. Why? It’s all business as you’d expect. Firestone is a primary sponsor of the game and wanted something with some visual punch, cue the monster truck, Chevrolet is the official vehicle of MLB, do some quick math and voila, you have a Chevy Bigfoot truck.

Before getting the whole story we were kind of heartbroken. As monster truck devotees since childhood and Bigfoot fans since our time in the womb, this just all seemed so wrong. In fact, we begged and pleaded with our father not to buy a Chevy truck in 1986 because they were the “bad guys” (he bought an ’86 F250 with a Holley topped 351W).

This is a marketing deal, not a truck that will be raced. Bob Trent who is a big wheel in the Bigfoot operation said that there are no plans to swap any of the racing truck bodies for Chevy units. Hell, if Jungle Jim could have that one red Funny Car, Bigfoot can have their one deviation from the norm as well.

Just one though or we swear we’re throwing away our Bigfoot night-light, radio, hot wheels, and piggy bank. We’ll do it…don’t make us!
