Bill Caswell Inks Movie Deal, Jeremy Renner to Star in Slingshot, the Story of Caswell’s Wild Adventures

We’ve been dying to tell you about this! Bill Caswell has signed a deal with Jeremy Renner, who in turn has teamed with Paramount Pictures to make a movie on the wild rally adventures of Bill Caswell. A couple weeks ago we went out to dinner with Bill Caswell while he was in the Boston area. He happened to be in New England because he had attended a rally school in Maine with the screenwriter for the movie Don Handfield. Handfield attended the school to get an actual feel for what it is like to hurl a rally car through the woods at speed.

Caswell gave us the whole skinny at the time but asked that we keep our traps shut until Renner had crossed the t’s and dotted the i’s with Paramount, securing the deal.

Renner is a hot property in Hollywood right now, with a full slate of movies either under production or heading to theaters soon. He was awesome in The Hurt Locker and his production company recently announced a Steve McQueen biopic that they are committed to dooing as well. Depending on the production scheduling, it will either be the McQueen picture of the Caswell picture that gets billing as the first feature film from Renner and Handfield’s production company The Combine.

Caswell was really pumped up when we talked about this a few weeks ago because Renner and Handfield are really committed to doing the project right, gaining lots of knowledge of the racing world and making sure to keep things are accurate as possible.

Renner will be playing Caswell in the movie which has been titled, Slingshot.

At dinner, Bill mentally walked us through the proposed first scene of the movie, and if it looks as good as it sounds, we’ll be glued to our seats through the whole film!

As more news comes along about the project we’ll keep you updated, but needless to say, we’re happy as hell for Caswell. The dude is a human dynamo and his story is pretty great. Renner and Handfield seem like a perfect pair to tell the tale.
