Bob Lutz the 78 year old former auto industry executive who last served as the Vice Chairman of General Motors told reporters at the New York International Auto Show that he was advising GM but was receiving no payment for it. Lutz doesn’t seem like the type who would loan his services for free, so we’re guessing that someone, or something is benefitting from this. In February, reports surfaced that seemed to indicate Lutz would be paid by GM. Creepily, the US Treasury Department who controls the pay rules of the top 25 executives of GM, freaked.
Lutz was being his normally snarky self when he told reporters, “As far as the Treasury Department is concerned, I’m just some 80-year-old. Why would anybody want to bring the guy in to listen to him?”
We’re assuming that Lutz is advising on product matters as that has been his specialty for most of a career that has spanned many decades in the US auto industry. His fingerprints are still all over the current crop of GM vehicles that have been helping the corner turn the financial corner, after going through the darkest period on its history, just a couple years back.
Lutz has a highly anticipated book coming out this summer called, “Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business”. We’ll keep you posted on that one, it should be a bad ass read!
Sound very non-professional.
