Bob Motz Back in Jet-Racing Action for 2009

Bob Motz Back in Jet-Racing Action for 2009

After suffering a horrific fire two years ago, Bob Motz has weathered the long road to recovery and will return to dragstrips across the nation this season in his familiar jet-powered Kenworth truck.

The fire, which happened at Kanawa Valley Motorsports Park in West Virginia, nearly claimed his life and had it not been for the actions of his son and starting-line workers to get him out of the truck, his life may have been lost.

The fire occurred when a fuel line ruptured on the starting line and the blazing inferno of fuel, which was fed by the still running pump, consumed the entire truck. The whole thing was a write off.

Motz is a legend in the jet ranks, having been part of Walt and Art Arfons operation back in the good old days. He has literally done it all. This stuff is in his blood.

Quoting Motz from a story found on IHRA.com, his 2009 schedule is shaping up. “On the IHRA side we’ll be at the season opener at Baton Rouge in March, Dallas in May, and then New England and Budds Creek in September. We’re also going to do O’Reilly Thunder Jam events at Motor Mile Dragway, May 9th, Skyview Drags, Binghamton, NY, and Carolina Dragway, August 29th. We’re also headlining at ‘Jet Warz,’ March 14th at Immokalee Regional Raceway in Florida.”

This is great news as this is one of the greatest spectacles you can see on a dragstrip. Don’t miss it if you have the chance.

Here’s a link to the whole, very cool interview with Motz.
